Palak Paneer Recipe
Palak Paneer is one of the most popular Paneer dishes. Palak Paneer is a simple yet delicious Punjabi dish which is cooked with Indian cottage cheese and spinach puree. The only way I can make my daugher Ira eat spinach is if it is cooked with paneer in the form of Palak Paneer.
How to make Punjabi style Palak Paneer Sabji (Bhaji) at home?
Palak Paneer is a flavorful dish which can be prepared in about 45 minutes at home. Here is a step by step recipe to make Punjabi style Palak Paneer Sabji (Bhaji) at home.
Ingredients for Palak gravy:
Spinach leaves 2 cups
Cashew nuts 10 to 12 pieces
Ginger 1/2 inch
Garlic 5 to 6 cloves
Green chilli 3 to 4
Salt 1/4 teaspoon
Water 3 cups
Cold water 3 cups
Preparation steps for Palak gravy:
Rinse spinach leaves thoroughly under running water using a stainer.
Boil three cups of water on medium heat, add salt and spinach leaves to the hot water. Let the water boil for 1 minute, then switch off the flame.
Immediately strain the spinach leaves and transfer it into ice cold water bowl. This will help in preserving the green colour of the spinach. You can add few cubes of ice. Let the spinach sit in cold water for about 2 minutes.
Now drain all the water from the spinach.
In a blender add blanch spinach, ginger, garlic, green chilli and cashew nuts and make a smooth puree without adding water. Keep aside the spinach puree.
Ingredients for Palak Paneer:
Oil 2 tbsp
Ghee 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
Onion chopped 1 medium sized
Turmeric powder a pinch
Salt to taste
Garam masala 1 teaspoon
Paneer 200 grams salt to taste
Grated paneer 2 cubes to granish
Cream to garnish (optional)
Preparation steps for Palak Paneer:
Heat a non stick pan, add oil and ghee, then add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
Add chopped onions and saute till they become light brown.
Add spinch puree and mix well.
Add little water if the puree is too thick.
Add turmeric powder and garam masala to the puree and simmer the gravy for about 10 minutes.
Taste and then add salt as per the taste.
Now time to add paneer cubes and give a gentle mix. Switch off the flame.
Now add grated paneer on the top.
Serve this delicious Palak Paneer with hot parathas, roti or jeera rice.
