Munch them anytime. Methi Thepla are light and healthy. Theplas are an integral part of Gujarati cuisine. We Gujaratis enjoy Theplas not only for breakfast, but also for meal. We cherish them the most during our travel. And I am sure you all would also cherish Methi Thepla at home.
How to make Methi Thepla at home?
Here is a step by step guide to prepare delicious Methi Thepla at home.
Ingredients:
Methi leaves - finely chopped - 1/2 cup
Whole wheat flour 2 cups
Gram flour 2 tablespoon
Ajwain 1 tablespoon
Sesame seeds 1/2 teaspoon
Asafoetida (hing) a pinch
Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
Jaggery 1/2 teaspoon
Oil 1/2 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Water to make dough
Preparation Steps for Methi Thepla:
Take wheat flour and gram flour in a mixing bowl. Add methi leaves, Ajwain, sesame seeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, jaggery and oil. Gently mix with the flour.
Slowly add water into it and knead into a dough. Add more water if required.
Make medium sized balls from the dough.
With the rolling pin, begin to roll them. Dust the flour to make thepla. Similar to the way you make rotis or chappatis.
Take a tawa on medium flame and place the thepla on it.
Flip when one side is partly cooked. Spread oil on both the sides.
With the help of spatula, cook the thepla on both the sides until you get golden spot on both the sides.
Your Methi Theplas are ready to serve with plain curd or pickle of your choice.
