Chana dal soaked 1 cup
Ginger garlic paste ½ teaspoon
Green chillies 2 or 3 finely chopped
Onions chopped 1 medium sized
Turmeric 1/3 teaspoon
Red chilli powder ½ teaspoon
Mint leaves finely chopped ¼ cup
Salt to taste
Oil for deep fry
Preparation steps for Chana Dal Masala Vada:
Rinse 1 cup of chana dal for couple of times in water. Then soak
the dal in 2 cups of water for 4 hours.
After 4 hours wash chana dal again couple of times in water and drain
the soaked chana dal very well.
Now time to grind the chana dal to coarse mixture. Do not add
water while grinding the chana dal.
In a mixing bowl take the coarsely ground chana dal. Add ginger garlic paste,
chopped green chillies, chopped onions,
turmeric, red chilli powder and mint leaves.
Mix well and add salt as per taste.
Make small or medium sized balls from the mixture, flatten them
and place in a tray or a plate. If you want the vada to be more crispy and crunchy, you need to flatten them thin.
Take deep kadai and heat oil on medium flame for deep frying. Check
the oil temperature by dropping a small portion of batter into the oil. If vada
comes up it means oil is hot and ready to fry the vadas.
Now fry the vadas till they become golden and crispy.
Place them on a kitchen paper towel to remove excess oil.
Serve the Chana dal vada hot with green chutney or tomato ketchup!
